Questions

The things people ask before they start.

Including the uncomfortable ones. If your question is not here, ask it on the call. We would rather answer it than have you wonder about it.

Getting licensed

How long does it take to get my life insurance license?

For most people, two to six weeks from deciding to start to holding the license. The variables are your state's required course hours, how quickly you study, and how soon you can get an exam seat. Some people do it in ten days. Some take three months because life is busy. Both are fine.

What does it cost?

Usually a few hundred dollars all in, and it varies by state. The pre-licensing course is about $50 in most states with our partner code. On top of that you pay your state's exam fee, fingerprinting where it is required, and the license application fee. Every one of those goes to a third party, not to us.

Do I need a college degree or sales experience?

No to both. States require you to be 18, complete pre-licensing education where mandated, pass the exam, and pass a background check. That is the whole list.

Sales experience helps, but it is not a prerequisite and it is not a predictor. Some of the best agents we have came from trucking, restaurants, construction, the military, and stay-at-home parenting.

What if I fail the exam?

You retake it. States allow retakes, usually after a short waiting period and another exam fee. A lot of good agents needed two attempts. It is a test, not a verdict.

Will something on my background check disqualify me?

Not necessarily. States focus on financial crimes and offenses involving dishonesty, and many other things do not bar you at all. Some situations require additional disclosure and review rather than an automatic no.

Tell us early if you are worried about something. We would much rather help you find out where you actually stand than watch you spend money and get a surprise at the end.

Can I get licensed in more than one state?

Yes. Your first license is a resident license in the state you live in. After that you can add non-resident licenses in other states without retaking an exam, just an application and a fee. Telesales agents typically add states over time as their volume justifies it.

The business

How much money can I make?

We will not give you a number, and you should be skeptical of anyone who does. This is straight commission on an independent contractor basis, so income varies enormously depending on how much you work, how well you learn the process, whether your business stays on the books, and factors outside anyone's control.

What we can tell you concretely is how the math works: you earn a percentage of the annual premium on what you sell, most of the first year is advanced to you up front, cancellations are charged back, and policies that stay in force pay renewals in later years. We will walk through real numbers with you on the phone.

Is this a salaried job?

No. You would be a 1099 independent contractor paid on commission, with no salary, hourly wage, or draw. If you need a guaranteed paycheck in the next 30 days, this is not the right move for you right now, and we will say so.

Is this an MLM or a pyramid scheme?

No. Nobody pays a fee to join, there is no product to buy, no inventory, and no requirement to recruit anyone, ever. You get paid by insurance carriers for selling insurance policies to real clients who want them.

The industry does use a distribution hierarchy: agents who build teams earn an override on their team's production, which the carrier funds out of the same distribution budget. That structure exists in essentially every independent insurance organization. The honest distinction is whether an organization's economics depend on recruiting or on selling. Ours depend on selling, which is why we ask agents to produce for a year before they recruit anybody.

Do I have to buy leads?

No. There is no required lead purchase to get started and no mandatory package. Our agencies run lead programs and most producing agents choose to participate, because buying leads is generally a better use of money than time. We do not mark leads up as a profit center off our own agents.

Do I own my clients?

Yes. You are appointed directly with the carriers under your own writing numbers. The book is yours, the renewals follow your contracts, and if you decide to leave we release you, and that is a written policy, not a verbal assurance.

Can I do this part time?

Some people start part time while they wind down another job, and that can work if the hours you commit are consistent and land when clients are actually reachable. What does not work is fitting it in whenever there is a spare moment. Tell us your real availability on the call and we will tell you honestly whether it is enough to get traction.

Working with us

What does it cost to join your agency?

Nothing. There is no joining fee, no CRM fee, and no charge for training. You pay for your own license and, if you choose to, your own leads.

What happens after I apply?

Someone from the agency calls you, usually within one business day. It is a conversation, not a pitch: what you are looking for, what your situation is, and whether this is genuinely a fit. If it is, we send you the exact course enrollment steps and start your carrier contracting so that the day your license is issued you can go to work.

What training do I actually get?

Live daily training calls, a scripted sales process, certification courses you complete before you are cleared to sell, recorded call reviews on your own calls, product and underwriting guides by carrier, and a named mentor responsible for your first 90 days.

Do I have to move or commute to an office?

No. Telesales agents work from home. Field agents work their own territory. You will not be asked to relocate.

What if I already have my license?

Then you skip straight to contracting. Apply the same way and mention it on the call. We will talk through carrier appointments, contract levels, and your release situation with your current organization if you have one.
